Thanks TreKing - I get it, the Alarm Receiver is kind of a redundant step
if all it does is start the Service. But it's not 'wrong' as such.
To the other point, is there actually a way to lauch an app without a main
activity? I had read it wasn't possible, and when I tried to do so from
AndroidStudio I just got errors, and didn't look at it any further. Is
there an example anywhere that you know of?

I was asking about some details in capturing data from smartphone
accelerometer. I am using Samsung S5, which has the invensense MPU6500
6-axis chip. The datasheet of the chip indicates a lot of sampling
rate/bandwidth options. However, through android we only have few options
concerning the sensor delay: SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST, SENSOR_DELAY_GAME,
I need to know two things: 1) the sampling rate accuracy and 2) the
What I concluded so far is that the sampling rate for certain setting is
not exactly fixed, it is fluctuating around certain number, for example the
fastest setting nominal sampling rate is 200Hz, but the sampling time will
be 4~6 msec. The sensor provides time stamp with each sample with 1msec
My questions are:
1) How far the timestamp is accurate, or in other words how much error I
need to assume in the sample timing?
2) What are the associated bandwidth with each SENSOR_DELAY setting?
because according to the chip datasheet, the bandwidth is not related to
the sampling rate. The bandwidth will be known if we can get how android
program the sensor chip with each of delay settings.
Thanks :)

I am trying to increase the transfer speed on android bluetooth. I
experimented transferring a 2.7MB buffer from one android device to another
using RFComm socket of the Bluetooth API (see code below). It took ~70 secs
to complete. I compared this method against the "Share" via bluetooth
function that came with the phone. The "Share" function gave exceptionally
better performance (~15 secs to transfer a 2.7MB file).
How does the "Share" function differ from using the Bluetooth API? How can
I replicate the "Share" method to get optimized transfer speed?
Bluetooth API test code:
Server side - installed on one android device

hi there,
I am developing an application which (among other things) allows the user
to send messages regarding a posted advertisement, and I am facing (due to
lack of experience on my part - just a year, and not all of it with
Android) a complication regarding the display of each message conversation.
It is currently required that the application should display the bottom
most message (the most recent one) when the user opens the conversation.
To put simple, there is MessageListActivity, with a child
MessageConversationActivity -> onClick on one of the messages in the list,
it should open the full conversation in the child activity (very similar to
the messanger app from google - which I love by the way, thank you so much
for that one), but I am presently unable to do this on my own.
So far I have achieved the listing of the messages and the opening of a
conversation (showing message in and message out, respectively using
layouts for each) but may not find a method to focus on the bottom of the
scrollview, or even invert its display.
Any help please, on how this feature could be achieved?
Thank you very much in advance.
