Hi Developers,

I'm integrating campaign tracking for that I'm linking Google Analytics
with Google Play. I followed this
<https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2956981?hl=en>. According to
the Google document, linking can be done only with the same email address
which is used in Analytics and Play. In my case Analytics and Play email
address is different. How can we do now ?
Is there any other possibilities to do that?
If I move Analytics to same email address which is used in Play then
Analytics record will be backup or destroy?

Please suggest me the best option to solve the problem.

Hello all,

I recently imported my project from Eclipse to Android Studio. The project
builds fine and runs fine.

However, If i make any changes in the *Layout* files, the changes are not
being build. Even if I remove some layout elements and reference them in
JAVA which no longer exist in the Layout,
JAVA does not detect the error and compiles with the layout elements being
there as earlier. The project still builds successfully. How is this
possible ? What could be going wrong ?

The IDE does detect missing layout references if i create a new project on
Android Studio

I have tried to clean the project, invalidate caches and disabled
PowerSaveMode

I am using :

Android Studio 1.2.1.1.
Android SDK Build tools 22.0.1

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks !

hey guy's I am trying to develop a contact management App with profile
pictures as the main buttons to view more information about the respected
contacts. for example all the tutorials I've found have been using tabs as
a means to move from a listed page of contacts to a creation tab but I
don't want to use tabs. if needed I can provide a mock up image of how my
design will look that I've created in Photoshop. but in total I wish to be
able to view all my contacts in a 3 by 3 grid on the screen that's
scrollable so you just swipe down on your screen to view more contacts so
you can view up to 9 contacts on screen at once but with the full profile
picture in a circle like button on your screen so when you tap on the
profile picture it then moves there image to the top of the screen an
brings up a materiel card with all the contact information.

I've decided to list two demo images anyway so please take a look much help
would be appreciated im new to this.

picture a more detailed page then opens up including there contact info
such as phone email and address and at the bottom to have three separate
buttons. each button being call sms and email respectively. I am also
trying to make use of the hole screen realest on my nexus 5 so when you
open the app the main top bar just underneath battery meter an notifcations
I want to be red and read Contact list. but in android studio that bar
seems to always be black and with an android logo i've got to change the
text but I cant seem to get rid of the android or change the colour. any

I have a situation in Lollipop where I have:

1. Directory tree (`DocumentFile`) which is granted from user.
2. A collection of audio files that need to modify retrieved from media
provider.

Uri mediaUri = Uri.withAppendedPath(MediaStore.Audio.Media.
EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI,
"45");

Then, how to write a stream into one of those files?

DocumentFile
<https://developer.android.com/reference/android/support/v4/provider/DocumentFile.html>
is a new mechanism which allows us to modify files in Lollipop. It is not
the same case with this post

I'm using Android Studio 1.2.1.1, with gradle plugin 1.1.

As of today, when we create a project with a jni source folder, the
ndk-build tool is run automatically, with a generated Android.mk file,
which we can configure a bit in our build.gradle file.

Problem is that the configuration is quite limited, and there's no option
to have a completely custom Android.mk / Application.mk file. To do so, we
need to use hacks, tricking gradle into thinking there's no JNI source, and
invoke the ndkbuild tool ourselves, creating custom tasks.

It would be great to have simply a customMakeFile parameter in the
build.gradle file to allow customization. For instance we could have the
following config that would not overwrite our own Android.mk /
Application.mk

defaultConfig {
// [...]
ndk {
customMakeFile true
}
}

Phil Gibbs <javabiker52@gmail.com>: May 20 06:26AM -0700

I have a typical master-detail scenario. That is, first activity invokes a
list fragment in which I retrieve a list using a contentprovider. An Item
click on this list returns the row using a callback to activity. Activity
determines device type and either fires a detail fragment (for tablets etc)
or fires a detail activity (for phones).
I am trying to update the list in the list activity following an update, or
a delete. The adapter is located in the list fragment - as is normal. I
have coded callbacks from the detail activity to the first activity. That
did not work. I've done the same thing but calling back to the list
fragment. That does not work. I created a hard-coded reference to the
ListFragment adapter in the DetailFragment in order to call '
notifyDataSetChanged' which not surprisingly also did not work.
Can someone tell me what I'm missing here?

Amit Siddhpura <siddhpuraamitr@gmail.com>: May 18 11:07PM -0700

Hello sir,

I have one question about app promotion, I hope sir you will help me, I
want to promote my app but I have read Google Policy
(https://play.google.com/about/developer-content-policy.html) in that it is
written that

App Promotion
1) Apps published on Google Play may not directly or indirectly engage in
or benefit from the following behavior:
2) Promotion via deceptive ads on websites, apps or other properties,
including simulated system, service, or app notifications or alerts.
3) Promotion or install tactics which cause redirection to Google Play or
the download of the app without informed user action.
Unsolicited promotion via SMS services.

Sir suppose my developer account named "ABC" I have three apps named "A",
"B" & "C", My "A" app is most downloaded and now I want to promote my "B" &
"C" app in "A" app
So I will use ImageView and make banner of "B" & "C" and use url like below

market://details?id=com.B

market://details?id=com.C

Now when user open "A" app and see both banner and when user click on "B"
or "C" banner it will redirect to "Google Play Store to install B or C app
page",

Will it breack policy of

"*Promotion* or install tactics *which cause redirection to Google Play*"

Thanks
Nobu Games <dev.nobu.games@gmail.com>: May 19 09:44AM -0700

I guess key in 3) is "without informed user action". In your scenario
tapping a banner ad is a user action. What appears to me as legal grey area
is the "informed user" bit. How can we possibly know that the user is
"informed" and does in fact know that they are clicking a banner ad for an
app, that will open its Google Play store page for installation? That
phrase implies that the user is supposed to be knowing what they are doing.
What this Google Play policy probably tries to express is that the banner
ad must not be deceptive in any way. If you style the ad as a button or any
other UI element in your app "A", and if it is not obvious that it is
actually an ad, then you are violating that policy, because the user is not
informed anymore. Their action of tapping the ad does not translate to the
intended effect anymore. That means that your app ads must be recognizable
as such probably by wording, appearance and also by the position on screen.

*"If you are such a fragile and sensitive being, I suggest that you stop
reading."*
I am neither fragile nor sensitive. You were being rude, were called out on
it, and then got belligerent. I was simply giving you some advice if you
really wanted to have a chance at getting an answer.

*"In fact, I would go one step further and suggest that you stop surfing
the web in case it offends your delicate sensibilities."*
Given that your only response is to lash out at those calling you out on
your behavior, perhaps you should take your own advice.

*"I do not appreciate your derailing of the thread."*
The only person responsible for derailing the thread is yourself, and how
you have chosen to lash out at those that called you out on your rudeness.

*"As I have mentioned earlier the same question was not answered on Stack
Overflow."*
What does that matter? All that shows is that your particular problem is a
rare one, and that it may take some time for someone to figure out, which
in turn means you are probably going to have to wait a little bit.

I've been on this forum since it was created. That doesn't really matter
other than that I can tell you that people best get answers when they are
patient, and not rude when they don't get an answer. As I said before, it
is not uncommon for a period of 2-3 days before someone is able to answer a
question.

Can you post a follow-up to your question? Absolutely. Generally I would
suggest at least waiting 2 days. And when you do, a very simple question
like "Has anyone seen anything like this before?" should suffice.

*"I do not appreciate your derailing of the thread."*
Likewise, I do not appreciate your rudeness. C'est la vie. The only person
truly responsible for the thread getting derailed is your own.

Ristar <ristar85@gmail.com>: May 13 06:54AM -0700

If no one can answer, the normal assumption would be everyone's clueless.
In any case, I did not assert that everyone's clueless, only asking if that
were so. As it is, I have pointed out that the exact same question on Stack
Overflow remains unanswered, and he wasnt rude.

I am no longer interested in the answer, because I, being better than all
the trolls with nothing better to do other than cry about "rudeness"
because of their ineptness at solving real problems and do nothing but
derail from a solution seeking thread to a flaming thread, have found the
solution to the problem.

If you have a problem, troll, don't read. It's that simple, troll.

Sorry if you don't like the truth, but you were being rude and impatient.
When you post in this forum is it expected that somebody who knows the
answer will enlighten you, not that people will search for the solution for
you. It is also expected that if you should happen to solve the problem
yourself then you will post the solution for the benefit of others, but
apparently you didn't know that either.

Ristar <ristar85@gmail.com>: May 13 10:23AM -0700

For the millionth time, before I posted the question, I have already tried
searching for the answer, and all I found was an unanswered StackOverflow
question. Do not try to make it sound like I expect anyone to do my work
for me, and no one here did anything worth a damn for me.

You people can blame me for being "impatient", but what good would a
solution be to me if it were given 1 or 2, or 10, or 100 years later?

With members like the 3 of you, I shall make the conscious choice never to
share anything here.

I've already addressed that. That just adds to the reason that you should
be patient and wait a little longer. It also does nothing to account for
the rude and belligerent behavior.

*"Do not try to make it sound like I expect anyone to do my work for me,

Unfortunately you made it sound like you expected that, when you said *"Like,
come on, I already showed you the error code. Or is everyone clueless?"*

*"You people can blame me for being "impatient", but what good would a
solution be to me if it were given 1 or 2, or 10, or 100 years later?"*
We are talking about a period of days, not years. We are simply talking
about some basic internet etiquette.

*"With members like the 3 of you, I shall make the conscious choice never
to share anything here."*
I highly recommend reading this. The whole article is good, but I'm linking
to a very specific section that applies to the interactions in this thread:

Marina Cuello <marina.eariel@gmail.com>: May 13 02:49PM -0300

Just in case anyone else encounters this kind of error: usually the
actual error is somewhere "upstream" the "Gradle Console" log
messages.

Scroll up and you might find the answer or at least the root of your
generic error.

As the task is "dexDebug", in this case I think it could be a repeated
/ inconsistent dependency --if you use two different versions of the
same dependency in your modules--, or that you exceded the max 65k dex
size and need to use the multidex option. There might be other
reasons, I guess.

Marina

PS: I agree with some other members that think OP was a bit rude, but
as English is not my first language and I know sometimes I sound
"harsh" when translated, I'm giving OP the benefit of doubt :)

Everyone works within time constraints. Do not assume that I have unlimited
time to wait.

I have already done my due diligence. As it is, there were no helpful links
and no one here helped, and you can get off your high horse because you did
nothing but derail the damn thread.

Your link is pathetic. I was not the one asking for apologies, was I? I do
not see why I should contribute to a forum full of trolls like yourself,
and that is my choice. You are the one that can't get over it. So, take
your own stupid advice, and get over it.
Justin Anderson <magouyaware@gmail.com>: May 13 06:21PM

*"Everyone works within time constraints. Do not assume that I have
unlimited time to wait."*
That is true, but no one made that assumption. Flip that around and you
can't assume that people on this forum are here at your beck and call.

*"I have already done my due diligence."*
Great. But that doesn't give you the right to carry on the way you have
been without being called on it.

*"As it is, there were no helpful links and no one here helped, and you can

Marina posted some very helpful information. And it came within the
timeframe I initially mentioned to expect most answers... Most answers come
within 2-3 days. Marina provided helpful information about 36 hours after
your email came through on the forum thread.

As for me, I was simply trying to help you understand how you were being
rude, disrespectful, and belligerent. At every step of the way, you have
done nothing but hurl insult after insult. I passed on many opportunities
to return the favor, in the hopes of helping you better understand how the
community around this forum operates.

*"I do not see why I should contribute to a forum full of trolls like

Yes, it is your choice. And if you can't control your temper and be
respectful and patient on here, then you have my full support in that
choice.

Thanks,
Justin

I've patched APK Expansion library so it can download additional .obb files
from my server and store in <shared-storage>/Android/obb/<package-name>
with main and patch files.

At http://developer.android.com/google/play/expansion-files.html you can
read strong limitation: do not save other data into your obb/ directory.

APK Expansion library treats all additional files as it's own, so from it's
point of view everything is ok.

Do you know any potential pitfalls?

Hello.

The latest version of Google Play Services (7.3) on the Play Store
indicates in "What's new" : "Maps API v2 for Android Wear".

However, it still doesn't seem to work.

Can we expect an update of Android Wear to support this soon?

Thank you.

Can anyone answer how to fix this? Like, come on, I already showed you the
error code. Or is everyone clueless?

I asked the question 15 hrs ago and posted the 2nd post 7 hrs ago.

It is not "rudeness", when I am merely asking if everyone is really
clueless. A quick check at StackOverflow shows the same question
unanswered.
Justin Anderson <magouyaware@gmail.com>: May 12 11:11PM

Rudeness is not defined by the question asked, but by how it was asked. And
yes, your second post was rude.

This list is answered by people who answer things in their spare time. They
aren't sitting around getting paid by Google (or anyone for that matter) to
answer questions.

It is not uncommon for answers to take 2-3 days (our longer!) before being
answered.

So sit back, wait, grab a cup of coffee, perhaps apologize for being rude,
and hopefully someone will see your question soon that knows how to help.

If you are such a fragile and sensitive being, I suggest that you stop
reading. In fact, I would go one step further and suggest that you stop
surfing the web in case it offends your delicate sensibilities. I do not
appreciate your derailing of the thread.

As I have mentioned earlier the same question was not answered on Stack
Overflow.

Don't be a derailing troll.

+1.

Google wouldn't take the effort to make AppCompat if they didn't intend to
get Material Design on older devices.

Previously, I had an Android app, which built on the top of
ActionBarSherlock. The app runs well on Android 2.3 till Android 5.0

Currently, I'm in the process, of migrating my app, from ActionBarSherlock
to Google AppCompat.

For the app running on Android 5.0, I'm targeting to use Material design.

However, if the app is running on Android 2.3 till Android 4, should I make
the app having Holo look, or Material look? Does Google provide any
official guideline on this?
Justin Anderson <magouyaware@gmail.com>: May 11 03:24PM

Ideally, you should style it for whatever version of Android the app is
running on. If Lollipop, then, Material, 4.x should use Holo, etc...

I am having same thought as you initially. Until I saw, the latest GMail
app in Android 4+, is also in Material design.

Personally, I prefer to have holo design on old Android system. However,
Google seems to have intention, to push Material design all over the place,
including old Android system.

Google's put a huge amount of effort into Material and making it
backward-portable in the app compat library. Considering that you can use
this to get this theme on all of these platform versions, and considering
how ass-ugly 2.3x looks now by comparison, you probably should just use the
one theme on everything.
