Ha, I've seen those "awesome" news too. Answering what I guess:

1. Email, because Google encourages users to use comments in Play Store
alongside ratings and email to ask for support
2. Google will examine support inquires after users complaining of an
unsatisfactory answer. If they think it was urgent, they will email the dev
with this: "Hey, this was an urgent matter, please answer now to not risk a
dev account cancellation"

Hi,

Don't know if it related but I found that Wifi Direct would not work
between two Nexus 5 devices both running Androd L Preview, same code works
ok (on the same devices) in Android 4.4 however.

Hope it gets fixed.

Hi,
Currently I am using httpclient's bytearray entity to compress and send
data to server. Code for the same is below.

final String url = "www.example.com/u.h";

HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost(url);

String data = "Hello World! Blah.. Blah.... Blah.............."; //sample
data. this can be huge that the compression helps

if (data.length() >
AndroidHttpClient.getMinGzipSize(getContentResolver())) {

httppost.setHeader("Content-Encoding", "gzip");

}

httppost.setEntity(AndroidHttpClient.getCompressedEntity(data.getBytes(
"UTF-8"), WorkoutActivity.this.getContentResolver()));

HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(httppost);

Now, I want to change the bytearray entity to url encoded entity i.e, I
want to change something like "param1=data".

i.e, I want to still compress the data and attach it to a http parameter.
We use servlet on server side to read the data.

Currently with bytestream being uploaded we are using servlet filter to
handle decompressing the data.

I need the sample code similar to like the one below.

String url = "www.example.com/u.z";

HttpPost httppost = new HttpPost(url);

String data = "Hello World! Blah.. Blah.... Blah.............."; //sample
data. this can be huge that the compression helps

List<NameValuePair> nameValuePairs = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>();

nameValuePairs.add(new BasicNameValuePair("param1", data )); // I want
the data to be compressed here.

httppost.setEntity(new UrlEncodedFormEntity(nameValuePairs));

HttpResponse response= httpclient.execute(httppost);

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Shashidhar

Everytime I start the debugger, before my app even starts or installs, the
debugger stops on an exception:

libcore.io.ErrnoException.

I have no idea what this means. I did a search, but other people who have
gotten a similar error seem to be doing something wrong with loading files.
My code has no file processing, but more importantly, my app hasn't even
started!

I did a search in the LogCat, but there is nothing about ErrnoException.
These are some of the error messages I catch instead:

I tried uninstalling and updating Intellij, thinking it was an IDE. No
luck. I updated all the SDK APIs I had installed. No luck.

The only code I added before this started happening was adding a Preference activity.
Even when I roll back changes on git, I still get the same error.

What the hell is going on? Why is my debugger catching this error, and why
now? What part of the toolchain is messed up? I'm not sure what is messed up....my
code, ide, SDK, or emulator?

Actually, I see now in the emulator that my app opens up, but its before my
activity fully loads. The libcore.io.ErrnoException must be happening
before onCreate because the exception is caught before breakpoint is
reached.

I played a little bit with this example:

But on Android L it discovers nothing. The same code on KitKat discovers
the expected services.

Is this a know issue? I found nothing about it at

But wait, there is more.

New developer policy -- from September 25 -- has this (new):

For paid Products or in-app transactions, you must respond to customer
support inquiries within three (3) business days, and within 24 hours to
any support or Product concerns stated to be urgent by Google.

Does anyone know if:

1 - They mean Google Play comments or email?

2 - How will the developer know that a particular support request was
"stated to be urgent by Google"?

There's an article on CNET today about the demands that the EU has made on
Google. I've downloaded the PDF of the formal demands and will scrutinize
it. I'm not sure if the news of these a couple weeks back is why some
developer's think the physical address has something to do with the EU. In
the US, in many locations it's fine to run a side business out of your home
and have a "physical location" elsewhere like a mail drop. Technically a
mail drop is a "physical location" since it is where physical
communications (mail) is available. Another option if one has friends or
relatives with an office is to see if you can use that. If there is a
inquiry they can say "he works at home."

We used to have some good discussions about these kinds of issues on the
Android Discuss group which has been dead for two years. I think we were
herded over to Groups. Many who hung out there had long careers in
software and we frequently criticized Google policies.

If You are going to create a view for Your list elements in code rather
than in xml You have to use first one. If You define a layout in xml You
can use either of them but if You go with second one You will have 3 lines
of code less to write. #convenience

We have a app that we are working on that once you login to the app, you
have a few buttons you can choose from, once you select one, it displays a
"listview" with a custom adapter layout of all the records available.
You can then click on any of the records and are taken to a detail page
where you can view the full details for that record. Currently if you want
to chose another record you have to go back to the list and pick.
We would like to keep that, but also see if its possible to allow the user
to swipe left or right to scroll thru all the detail pages for the other
records..

is something like that possible?
Jose_GD <jose.gonzalez.d@gmail.com>: Sep 25 05:01AM -0700

Thanks @Kostya.

@Noby, it doesn't make sense that they ask for entering a physical address
to developers that have already entered it in Google Wallet, I think they
are talking about a new field in the developer consoler, as DevDallas says
in the last post of this thread. If they were to use the address already
entered in Wallet, they will say "we will show that address in your app's
page in Play". But with Google you never know... sigh

So if it has to do with European customer protection laws why don't they
just say so in the notification AND put a link the law? Or is that too
much work for them? There seems to be an attitude against people being
able to make money on their own and that you MUST work with a big company
in the 21st century. If you have to rent a mailbox then raise your prices
to pay for it and let the users know why. Everyone else is raising their
prices including your local sandwich shop. Yesterday's 99 cent app should
be $1.25 by now.

Yes, Google's communication could be better here. I guess they just don't
really care about explaining.

The reason still looks ridiculous to me -- but "dura lex, sed lex", and
Google has to comply, and then so do we.

But it makes me curious -- should I now expect users from Denmark or Greece
to show on my doorstep, with their phones in hand, "see, this button
doesn't work"? It's a long trip from there to Russia, and there are bears
in the streets, dangerous :)

It's not clear if Google will accept PO boxes here -- they don't for
merchant account addresses -- so we'll see when there actually is a way to
enter the address. Right now, it seems like there isn't, and my request for
a clarification has not been answered (so far).

Not sure what you are trying to ask here. Are you trying to limit your app
distribution to english speaking countries or wanting to broaden it as much
as possible? Regulations are going to be app dependent, for example if
your app has any sort of gambling related theme it will not be allowed for
distribution in certain countries.

I have an application developed which needs to connect to a web site to
collect online content.

I have seen that we can indeed connect to a web server on a local system by
addressing it via it's ip address.
However, I am using virtual hosts on my system, so as to use virtual
domains.
This is setup on my system in the apache httpd-vhosts.conf file like this -
#
# Project wordpress dev site
#
<VirtualHost *:80>
DocumentRoot "C:/web/www/boutique"
ServerName boutique.project.dev
</VirtualHost>

with my hosts file having the following entry
127.0.0.1 boutique.project.dev # project woocommerce site

I am using the HttpPost and HttpClient classes and I cannot see how I can
provide the real IP address whilst still transmitting the host name in the
URL request.

So, what I need to know is how can I make queries from my application using
the virtual address " boutique.project.dev " ?
Is this possible ?

Hello,
I have stuck in a problem in my app development.
First i will tell you my scenario.
" I'm using Google maps v2. It is displaying my location as a
draggable marker. And several other markers are displayed near my location
as cluster."
What i want is that on my current location marker drag end event
i want my current location to be updated and the corresponding nearby
markers to be updated on the map and last visible markers on the screen to
be invisible.
NOTE:- I'm not using places API. instead i'm fetching location
co-ordinates from my site API, and the result as co-ordinates are stored in
a local file in android.
Thanks in advance.

We are less than a week from the deadline and still it isn't possible to

Nobu Games <dev.nobu.games@gmail.com>: Sep 24 02:01PM -0700

I added all information on both tabs, with the same address, since I'm
running a business. The legal profile is likely just between you, Google
and the authorities which will be contacted by Google to validate your
business.

The public profile is probably the one you want to be careful with, if you
want to hide your home address. In my experience, the legal profile is the
more important one. It should be absolutely identical with whatever records
you have filed with your bank and tax authorities. In my case Google denied
payment a few months ago because they found a tiny typo in my business
address and they said they could not match it against the records of the
IRS. It was something like a missing letter, so they are going to be very
pedantic there.

use a high enough api version, and you will open with correct size/height

-----
public int getStatusMetric() {
int resId = getResources().getIdentifier("status_bar_height",
"dimen",
"android");
if (resId > 0) {
int result = getResources().getDimensionPixelSize(resId);
//Log.d( "org.MyNative", "status bar result " + result );
return result;
}
return 0;

}

Hi,

You seem to have map onPause / onResume mixed up -

@Override
protected void onPause() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onPause();
map.onResume();
}

It should be -

@Override
protected void onPause() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
super.onPause();
map.onPause();
}

etc

Regards

The current Google Play Developer Program Policies
<https://play.google.com/about/developer-content-policy.html> state the
following about payment processing and monetization:

*Paid and Free Apps*
> must clearly notify users that payment is required to access those
> features.

> These conditions do not explicitly mention donations, but the way I read
it is that using a 3rd party payment processor such as PayPal is only
forbidden when the payment is meant for the app itself or extended features
and goods that can only be used / consumed with the app. According to those
conditions it's probably also not allowed to ask for PayPal donations for
your programming work, since that could be seen as a late payment for the
app.
I would say that donations for a good cause unrelated to yourself and your
app, are acceptable. To be sure you could either try and get in touch with
the Google Play developer support team
<https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/> or consult a
lawyer.

By the way, there is an Android *donations* *library* on GitHub, that
claims to support several payment processors:

I want Institute, Company, Business name along with it's address when I tap
on icon which is on Google Map.

Example :- On Google Map Application, when be will tap on icon then it will
show complete detail and address for that icon.

Find three images. There when I tap on "HealthCare Global Enterprise Ltd."
icon then it gives complete address with Hospital name on top of the screen.

I am using Geocoder to get address for particular latitude-longitude. I am
getting street, country, pincode etc but not able to get institute,
company, business name.

Here Hospital Name : HealthCare Global Enterprise Ltd.

Code :-

private String getCompleteAddressString(double LATITUDE, double LONGITUDE) {
String strAdd = "";
Geocoder geocoder = new Geocoder(this, Locale.getDefault());
StringBuilder strReturnedAddress = null;
try {
List<Address> addresses = geocoder.getFromLocation(LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, 1);
if (addresses != null) {
System.out.println("Address Size ->>: " + addresses.size());
System.out.println("Address 0th Position ->>: " + addresses.get(0));
Address returnedAddress = addresses.get(0);
strReturnedAddress = new StringBuilder("");

for (int i = 0; i < returnedAddress.getMaxAddressLineIndex(); i++) {
strReturnedAddress.append(returnedAddress.getAddressLine(i)).append("\n");

System.out.println("*****************************");
System.out.println("Admin Area: ->> " + returnedAddress.getAdminArea());
System.out.println("Country Code: ->> " + returnedAddress.getCountryCode());
System.out.println("Country Name: ->> " + returnedAddress.getCountryName());
System.out.println("Feature Name: ->> " + returnedAddress.getFeatureName());
System.out.println("Admin Area: ->> " + returnedAddress.getLatitude());
System.out.println("Latitude: ->> " + returnedAddress.getLocality());
System.out.println("Longitude: ->> " + returnedAddress.getLongitude());
System.out.println("Max Address Line Index: ->> " + returnedAddress.getMaxAddressLineIndex());
System.out.println("Phone: ->> " + returnedAddress.getPhone());
System.out.println("PostalCode: ->> " + returnedAddress.getPostalCode());
System.out.println("Premises: ->> " + returnedAddress.getPremises());
System.out.println("SubAdminArea: ->> " + returnedAddress.getSubAdminArea());
System.out.println("SubLocality: ->> " + returnedAddress.getSubLocality());
System.out.println("SubThoroughfare: ->> " + returnedAddress.getSubThoroughfare());
System.out.println("Thoroughfare: ->> " + returnedAddress.getThoroughfare());
System.out.println("Url: ->> " + returnedAddress.getUrl());
System.out.println("*****************************");
}
strAdd = strReturnedAddress.toString();
Log.w("My Current loction address", "" + strReturnedAddress.toString());
} else {
Log.w("My Current loction address", "No Address returned!");
}
} catch (Exception e) {
strReturnedAddress.append("Address Not Avilable");
strAdd = strReturnedAddress.toString();
}
return strAdd;}

As one of the developers whose software was pirated a couple years back
(wondered where all those millions of dollars went) Google provided my
address to the FBI who sent the same letter than they emailed me and a
pamphlet about their anti-piracy activities. DHS should have no problem
getting your home address. There is really no need to post the developer's
physical address because Google already has it. This is probably a
mis-management issue (as if Google doesn't have a lot of those).

This call is for bluetooth low energy connections. Are you sure you have a low energy device connected? It looks like you are connecting a mouse, I'm not sure that is a low energy device.

Please check your API 18 for BLE support. There is also an app called BLE
checker.that you could try.

I want to create a service that will run in background. Whenever user tap
Contacts/Address book, the service should be able to recognize it and
displays a message or whatever. How can I do this?
J Decker <d3ck0r@gmail.com>: Sep 19 11:56PM -0700

sounds like catching Intents?

s_ali <sara.bicse@gmail.com>: Sep 20 09:11AM -0700

not exactly...what I want is that, whenever the default contacts
application of android is accessed by the user or any application, the
background service should be able to detect it. I need help in creating
such kind of service.

I want to implement the Donation functionality using Paypal for a android
application which is generating donation for a cause. There are three
options to implement

1) Using Native SDK

2) Using webview

3) Redirect to webpage on browser

If i go with the first option, then it is possible to replace the button (*Buy
a Thing*) with label '*Donate*' shown in sample application of Paypal Paypal
sample app for integrating SDK in native app
<https://github.com/paypal/PayPal-Android-SDK/tree/master/SampleApp>

<https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-zEs7N3HgYkw/VB0pkz2DbHI/AAAAAAAAAyU/hA_b_gxH25E/s1600/Screenshot_2014-09-13-22-49-58.png>

As i am using the donation option in native app instead of In App Purchase.
In this case, Will Google suspend my application from Google play store?.

If above case is true, In that case, do i have to go with the second option
(WebView) OR this webview option is also not possible as it is also the
part of native application.

And Hence i have to redirect a user to the browser for a donation if above
options are not true.

Please let me know the correct option.

Thanks in Advance.
